The LAPD is “perp walking” a venerable 50-year old LA motorcycle club in another example of how the American justice system attempts to destroy the reputation of an accused before trial through press releases. The Chosen Few is a unique Los Angeles heritage club in that there is no racial bar unlike many clubs. Perhaps the club has changed since I had a peripheral involvement with them in the ’60s but the case has not been made and the LA Times must have assigned a reporter with no historical perspective.
In Europe this does not happen because of the presumption of innocence. In the “enlightened” USA the district attorney and police attempt extrajudicial conviction in the eyes of the public BEFORE a trial takes place. If someone or in the chamber of commerce or in public office or the Red Cross is arrested we don’t tar the whole organization.
The LA times owes a follow up story to detail the actual circumstances.

Chosen Few motorcycle gang is targeted in crackdown
July 14, 2011 | 3:00 pm LA Times 7/14/11
The criminal activity of a notorious and violent motorcycle gang has been “significantly curtailed” thanks to a year-long multi-agency initiative, authorities said Thursday.
Several leaders and members of the so-called Chosen Few Motorcycle Club, which authorities describe as a criminal gang, have been arrested and incarcerated, according to he Los Angeles Police Department.
The task force formed in May 2010 included members of the LAPD; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Drug Enforcement Agency; the California Department of Motor Vehicles; the California Department of Justice; and the Los Angeles city attorney’s office.
“Its primary purpose was to reduce the criminal activities of the Chosen Few” Motorcycle Club, according to an LAPD statement.
Officials said the gang was formed in Los Angeles in 1960 and is headquartered in the 10800 block of South Broadway. During the first four months of 2010 “the club was involved in three shootings and a homicide,” officials said.
The task force crackdown on the Chosen Few yielded substantial amounts of Phencyclidine, commonly known as PCP; crack and powder cocaine; marijuana; and firearms, according to officials.
In one case, a DMV employee is accused of creating fraudulent identities that were used by club members to purchase firearms, according to officials.
The city attorney’s office is seeking charges against nine Chosen Few members for crimes including sale of cocaine and marijuana, assault weapons violations, and gang enhancements, officials said.
“Let other motorcycle gangs operating in the city of Los Angeles take note; we will shut you down and keep you down,” LAPD deputy chief Patrick Gannon said in a statement. “Crime is not welcome here.”
You can thank the Department of Justice’s Weed and Seed Program. I have been a victim of this organization and I know others who have also been targeted. During the Bush Administration it was run by “faith based community groups”. Now they have changed their wording to just “community groups”. But what it amounted to was illegal surveillance and harassment by “respectable” community members — what amounted to vigilante justice. They tried to run people out of town that they didn’t like. Atheists were targeted by this group in many cities. Here is the link: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/ccdo/ws/welcome.html
